[Bigband]
Salsa!

In order to enthuse the Chinese audience, who are not very familiar with big band music, we were advised by the organizer, David Shen, to arrange a number of Chinese songs. Among other things, I was given a sheet containing a Chinese children’s song, “Jasmine” (jasmine). I thought it would be fun to set this theme after a pentatonic introduction (pentatonic sounds easily Chinese) quietly as a jazz ballad, and then do something surprising with it. Salsa!
